Somehow, we're already at the end of July, and thus edging ever closer to the end of summer. And so, to distract us from the relentless and unforgiving passage of time, I've compiled a ranking of the most unusual homes listed on Zillow this month.

From a pirate-themed dwelling to a lakeside castle — and with thanks to @zillowgonewild, who consistently uncovers the wackiest listings on the site — these are some of the most unusual homes that went up for sale in July.

7. The Rose Cottage

This quaint little home in Enterprise, Oregon, looks like if a kid's doll house was made real. At the time of writing, the three-bed, two-bath is still for sale, and going for a rather reasonable $498,000.

6. The Little Red House

Being small and red-colored, Washington, DC's Little Red House indisputably lives up to its name. The interior, however, you're probably not expecting.

The house was built in 1780, and with wood paneling and rustic wooden beams, it very much maintains the feel of the time. The year 1721 is even etched on a beam above the fireplace.

5. A Pirate-Themed Property

This relatively normal-looking, four-bed, three-bath house in Las Vegas is hiding a weird little secret. Inside, the rooms are pirate-themed — not least the bar, which comes complete with a DJ booth and ship's helm.

4. A Barbie Dreamhouse

Take a trip back to the '50s with this cute mid-century home in Phoenix, Arizona. Filled with retro decor, vintage furniture and pastel colors fit for a Barbie, the place is (in my opinion) an absolute steal at $549,900.

3. A Converted Church

This decidedly Gothic-looking church in Cincinnati, Ohio, has been transformed into a spacious — and very trendy — living space. There are five bedrooms, six bathrooms and a large mezzanine with plenty of space for activities.

2. The Whale House

As its name indicates, this one-of-a-kind house is shaped like a whale. Built in 1978, the Santa Barbara property is currently listed for $3.25 million, and features stone walls, stained glass windows and a 75-foot, grotto-like outdoor pool.

1. The Castle at Smith Lake

This extremely grand Bremen, Alabama, castle comes with a stunning lakeside view that's matched only by the house's equally impressive interior. The property, which sits on 6 acres of land, is on sale right now for just under $5 million — but if this one doesn't take your fancy, Zillow has a bunch of other castles to look at.
